Living in a fast paced busy society, there are many reasons to why one maybe overwhelmed more than others. Here are some ideas on How to Deal with Being Overwhelmed with Life.
Finding Balance
Having a balanced and stable lifestyle is very important. If not, then keeping up with life can be overwhelming. Life has a lot of areas we have to experience. Like education, careers, spirituality, relationships, marriage, work, running a business, having children, wants, needs, and desires etc.
When you are feeling overwhelmed, this means there’s too much going on more than you can handle. Maybe you’re facing a life threatening matter, maybe you haven’t healed from a past disaster, or maybe you’re dealing with change.
You could be in a unhealthy relationship, or dealing with challenges or difficulties in personal areas that may arise. Challenges like finances, family, or underlying issues. Sometimes we may not know why or understand the causes of our sorrows or frustrations.
Knowing Why You’re Overwhelmed
Knowing and understanding why or what causes you to feel overwhelmed can be helpful. You can better find a solution to solve your problem. You will be able to focus on the area of need and work specifically towards improvement.
Feeling overwhelmed may appear in ways that are not always obvious until things worsen. You may experience emotions that may not often make sense, it could feel strange or appear unnoticeable. This can lead into developing unstable emotions that happens off and on. Whatever area you struggle with, that is the point to look for ways to better help yourself. Look for ways to make your life easier.
For example stress. Stress has an external reasoning behind your feelings. Maybe you’re stressed out about work, finances, etc. Then there’s anxiety. Anxiety on the other hand may not have any leading cause but can trigger fight or flight mode.
Both stress and anxiety shares many of the same symptoms and has mental and physical forms that can be damaging to the body and the mind.
These forms of feelings are all negative related factors that altogether weakens you both mentally and physically. Some of us may have situations that are traumatizing. Then they’re those who may have situations that are life changing.
How deep of a matter that you are dealing with is something you’ll have to determine. Some situations maybe more intense than others needing outside services and that’s all determined by you.
If you have family, friends, or someone you could talk to, trust, or rely on and they are willing to help. Then you could begin there. No one can truly determine that but you. If necessary, take action to get help, advice, etc.
You may be able to figure things out and manage whatever it is you’re going through on your own and that’s fine too. It is important to know what you can or can not handle.
It might not seem easy at first, you have to trust the process. Allow time for healing and getting through each moment of the day in your journey. You are the one in control.
Affirmations
A great way to reduce the feeling of worry, stress, anxiety, etc are affirmations. I’ve found using affirmations to be a very useful tool. Affirmations are a practice of empowering positive words, sentences, statements or phrases to encourage, motivate, inspire, or help change a pattern of negative beliefs into having positive beliefs.
Practicing affirmations is something that can take time or can be helpful right away. Affirmations help you to refocus those negative thought patterns and center your thoughts to focus on change for the greater good of whatever desire or outcome you want to achieve.
Affirmations can be used for anything. Affirmations has the power to reassure your thinking into a higher level of self empowerment. It increases self confidence, and self awareness. In order for affirmations to really help you, you have to practice repeating them often.
You may practice repeating your affirmations daily and sometimes multiple times per day to truly believe what you are saying. Depending upon your belief system or how open and receptive you are is what determines its effectiveness and outcome.
Keep in mind repetition is key. In between your journey, you may find yourself into negative thought patterns especially when starting out. That’s ok, just go right into the saying them again. If you fall get right back up, it doesn’t matter where you are it’s where you finish. Go according to what your needs and desires are to make them work for you.
Maximize Your Time
Waking up each day without goals, plans, routines, and for some maybe without a schedule can make life seem more hectic. Knowing what is most important to you can benefit you throughout your day.
By prioritizing yourself and your time to what works best with your needs. You will maximize the opportunity for healing and reconnecting to having a healthy balance of life.
Creating a system in those areas of need, you can help manage your day and make your time altogether more effective. Being able to balance, knowing what causes you to be overwhelmed, and being proactive will save more time and energy.
Life was intended for it to be simple. By our actions, choices, decisions, the lack of knowing are some of the reasons for our struggles and difficulties that we go through within our lives. Whether willingly or unwillingly, intentionally or unintentionally, and etc.
However, we do have the power to better ourselves to enjoy our time, our health, the lives of family, friends, others, and find pleasure. By setting intentions, living with purpose, and working towards fulfillment. We can live the life of our dreams and desires.
By seeking, finding, researching, learning, etc in those areas of need. You can improve for the greater good in health, happiness, wholeness, or success. Know that success and happiness is defined and determined differently for every individual. What may work, please, or satisfy you can be different for others.
Here are some ways that can help you maximize your time:
- Journals and or dairies: I believe journaling is effective and beneficial all around in many ways. Journaling helps you jot down your ideas and you can express yourself however you want. Journaling allows you to let out your thoughts and feelings to be expressive. Dairies however can also be useful to kind of keep track of your day. Either way, the purpose is just write out your thoughts, brainstorm, plan, etc. Using a simple notebook is perfectly fine. Feel free to be fancy, it’s just you and have fun.
- Habit tracker: a habit tracker tracks the progress of your intentions, desires, or goals. Take a look at the photos below it is an example of what I use. It is practical to use as a daily, monthly tracker to use throughout the year. If you are interested in purchasing a habit tracker (click here). The planner in the link is similar to the planner I use, the exact planner I have is no longer available.
As I work on regaining my health I also have a meal planner to help me keep track of what I eat and having an overview of my lifestyle. - Having a plan of action for the day is useful. It avoids scrambling and wasting time trying to figure out what needs to be done. Routines are a great way to implement for productivity and it helps you to be proactive.
Rest
Being sure that having enough rest is vital. My mom used to say to me all the time, “a tired brain can’t think.” This is so true, a lack of sleep ways heavy on the mind. It can be the cause of frustration and exhaustion leading into mood swings, overeating, lack of appetite, and etc.
Having enough rest is very important and brings clarity to the mind. It stimulates the brain for creativity, energy, and proper bodily function.
Growth and Development
When you face periods in your life where constant battles feel overwhelming. This can cause unwanted desires, frustration, and pain. This maybe a period in your life where chances are you’re looking for growth. That can be for any area of your life. If followed through correctly mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually, and socially. You can be elevated from your situation for maximum growth, opportunities, potential, and a better way of living life.
This could be learning something new, taking on new opportunities or adventures, expanding into dreams, etc. Whatever it maybe take the time to seek it out.
You may find this process easy navigating your way to a better, happier, and healthier lifestyle. Or, you may find yourself struggling to get there. That’s ok, as long as you keep on going. Objections and obstacles will happen. Failing a few times along the way is possible too. The point to keep in mind is, don’t give up. If you fall off course. Get back up again and take action to keep on going. A little by little goes a long way. Remember, it’s not where you begin, it’s where you end.
You are a work in process working to improve and better yourself for simplicity and a wholesome life. You have to trust the process. Believe and know that it’s working out for you and your highest good.
By learning to let go of things that may not serve you well mind and body. Finding balance within the everyday life. Embracing positivity through and with your thoughts, deeds, actions, accepting love and being loving. I believe we could all be happier in Life filled with Light and Love.
No matter where you are in your journey. The intention is not to give up, to be creative, live, and enjoy your life.
